Grateful for parish priests

To the editor:

On Oct. 30, we at Our Mother of Sorrows said farewell to Father Winfried Kellner as he retired. I think we all knew it would come someday, but for me it was the suddenness of the announcement that caught me off guard.

Ten years ago, when I was going through RCIA, our class, which was about 10 or 12 people, always looked forward to either Father Win or Father Alex Bradshaw teaching a class. There were many times in our Q&A when we would be so engrossed in conversation that Father Win or Father Alex realized that they would need to rush to vest for the next Mass. I remember when it came time for first confession how nervous I was but Father Win was very patient and I thought that the penance he gave me was very lenient, considering I was 58 years old at the time and thought my sins were pretty substantial.

In closing I am reminded of 1 Corinthians 1:4: "I give thanks to God always for you because of the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus..."

So for all the priests that the good Lord has blessed our parish with -- Father Win, Father Alex and now the capable hands of Father William Coffas and Father Anthony Nketiah, and I mustn't forget Father Adam and Father Paul -- I am forever grateful and will keep them and all our priests in my daily prayers.
