National Day of Prayer event set

Waterloo will observe the 66th-annual National Day of Prayer with a 6:30 p.m. celebration at the Waterloo First Presbyterian Church, located at 42 E. Main St.

Each year on the National Day of Prayer, millions of Americans of all faiths make time to pray for national, state and local government leaders, according to Judy Mayne, chair of the Waterloo event. The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The theme of this year’s observance is “For Your Great Name’s Sake! Hear Us … Forgive Us … Heal Us!”

“At this crucial time in history, we can do nothing more important than pray in unity, while standing in the gap for our nation, in bringing light and hope to America through the power of prayer,” Mayne said.

All are welcome to attend the Waterloo celebration. To learn more about it, contact Mayne at 315-539-2963 or e-mail her at To learn more about the National Day of Prayer, visit
