Agency honors volunteers

Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes will honor seven individuals and one initiative with its Sharing the Light Award at a June 14 ceremony.

The Sharing the Light Award is presented each year to Finger Lakes-area residents who share their talents with others while working to better the communities in which they live. This year the award will be presented to Charlie Greene, Phyllis Motill, Gary F. Shultz, Frederick Smith, and Robert S., Kathleen S. and Colleen Flowers. The award also will be presented to representatives of Family Promise of Ontario County, a volunteer-driven interfaith effort aimed at helping homeless families secure reliable housing and self-sufficiency.

“The collection of individuals we are honoring this year are certainly shining examples of the good that results when you live a life of purpose,” noted Ellen Wayne, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes. “This award presents an opportunity for us to take time to recognize their hard work, caring and compassionate spirits, and to learn a little more about some of the good work that is being done across our communities.”
