Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rochester recently received $1.66 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Healthy Marriage and Education Grant Program. These funds will be used to help Catholic Charities of Wayne County launch its Thriving Family program, which will provide services to help local families and at-risk youths, as well as unemployed and underemployed individuals.
Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, as well as U.S. Representatives John Katko and Louise Slaughter, helped the agency secure the grant to fund the new program, which will bring new resources for case management, assessment and family education services to Wayne County residents. In order to provide these services, Catholic Charities of Wayne County will collaborate with Family Counseling Services of the Finger Lakes, Literacy Volunteers, The Victim Resource Center, Wayne County Action Program and the Ad Council.
"We so appreciate our senators’ and representatives’ assistance in providing us the opportunity to introduce this innovative program to our area and improve the lives of individuals and families in our local communities for years to come," said Deacon Peter Dohr, executive director of Catholic Charities of Wayne County.
