All lives are a little messy

To the editor:

My sister and I have been going to pray at Planned Parenthood on University Avenue on Sundays from 11 a.m.-noon during the 40 Days of Life. On one Sunday, a man stopped by and asked one of the sidewalk counselors, “What if a woman is raped and the baby is given up and it has a messed up life”. My sister and I later talked about it in the car on our way home.

What we discussed about this is we both have known both rich and poor, and who doesn’t have a messed up life? Think hard — aren’t all of our lives a little messy? We all make sinful choices. We all abandon Jesus at the foot of the cross sometime in our lives.

If we were aborted, we would not be allowed to see the beauty of this world. Aborted babies are never given the chance to look into their mother’s eyes. To play with friends. To look up at a clear blue robin-egg sky. To hear the rain tapping on the roof tops. To see the autumn leaves change into magnificent colors. I could go on about God’s beauty and a beautiful world that our beloved mothers allowed us to see.

The man forgot one thing my sister said to me, “What about mercy for both the mother and child”.
