Four Aquinas Institute alumni, Bernie Iacovangelo of Chili, Ron Cortese of Pittsford, the late Father J. Michael Wesley and the late Michael Roche, were inducted into the Aquinas Hall of Fame April 28 at the Hyatt Regency of Rochester.
Iacovangelo, Class of 1965, was honored for his leadership in the legal and real-estate professions and in the community. He is president of the Flower City Soccer League, which serves more than 400 inner-city children ages 8 to 14. He also is a member of the Monroe County Airport Authority, leader of the Chili Republican Committee, director of the Italian American Sports Club and assistant coach of the Aquinas boys varsity soccer team.
Cortese, Class of 1952, is a board-certified orthodontist and an active member of the Rochester Dental Society. His fundraising efforts have helped Aquinas receive more than $400,000 in scholarship donations.
Father Wesley, Class of 1957, developed his love for track and field as a student athlete at Villanova University, where he graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1961. He was ordained in 1968 and appointed to the teaching staff at Aquinas. He is remembered for his efforts to promote track-and-field program at Aquinas.
Roche, Class of 1955, was active in civic and professional organizations throughout his career with the Monroe County Parks Department. He served on the Rochester City School Board, as a city councilman and as a member of the Gates Town Board. He supported the efforts of Aquinas students, athletes and alumni.
