An eight-week support group is beginning in Chemung County for people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease and their care partners.
The group will meet on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Big Flats Community Center, 476 Maple St., Big Flats, between April 5 and May 24. Sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Rochester and Finger Lakes Region, this is a free offering. Each session includes a formal presentation on a selected topic and small-group discussion to allow participants a chance to talk with one another about their individual concerns. Topic covered include the basics of dementia; disclosure/changing relationships; the care team/resources/future planning; living with the diagnosis; medications/research; tools for maintaining independence; and stigma/advocacy.
