Anthony J. Costello, former general manager and publisher of the Catholic Courier, died March 14, 2016. He was 78 years old.
Mr. Costello was a lifelong Rochester resident and a graduate of East High School. In 1966 he began working at the Catholic Courier, then known as the Catholic Courier Journal and later the Courier-Journal. During his 18-plus-year tenure, he served as the Courier’s advertising director, and later general manager and publisher, before leaving the paper in 1985. He went on to become a prominent real-estate developer in the Rochester area.
Mr. Costello is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Brett; daughters, Lynette, Alicia and Andrea; and 12 grandchildren.
Calling hours for Mr. Costello will be March 18, 2016, from noon to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at Anthony Funeral Chapel, 2305 Monroe Ave., Rochester. His funeral Mass is set for March 19, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Louis Church, 64 S. Main St., Pittsford.
