Anti-crime event comes to Greece Aug. 5

The NorthGate Neighbors of Greece will host the second-annual National Night Out Against Crime from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Barnard Exempt Pavilion on Maiden Lane.

The group hopes to encourage neighbors to turn on their porch lights in recognition of the night out against crime and to make a statement that each person is responsible for keeping crime out of their neighborhood, Jeremy Carter, president of the group, said in a statement.

This is the 25th anniversary of the National Night Out Against Crime, which has been observed in various Greece neighborhoods during the past 15 years.

The Greece Police Department and the Barnard Fire Department will display police cars and fire trucks for children and adults to see. Residents also will be able to take home personal- and public-safety leaflets. Pizzas will be donated by local merchants, and cold drinks and cake also will be available. The event is free of charge and open to all.
