To the editor:
Steven Kent’s column, "Dignity can’t be left at the jailhouse door", implied that Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio was mistreating his prisoners.
"No frills" incarceration would be more accurate, as Sheriff Arpaio’s record would show.
Before passing judgment on a sheriff who tries to maintain law and order, consider the following: drug cartels are responsible for the deaths of nearly 30,000 people. Included in that number are poor Mexicans traveling north.
While the embattled state of Arizona is trying to protect its citizens from criminals crossing its border, the Obama Administration is fighting these efforts of self preservation. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration’s interest lies in securing votes rather than securing our borders.
