Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen takes step toward sainthood

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, who served as bishop of Rochester from 1966 to 1969, was beatified Sept. 24 during a Mass at the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis. The ceremony, presided over by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, officially gave Sheen the title “Blessed,” marking a significant step in the Catholic Church’s canonization process.
