How is it August already? It seems like every year the summer days go by so quickly. In just a few weeks, children and teachers will be heading back to school and another summer will have concluded.
Though our summers are never long enough, it seems that this year I have taken full advantage of the sunshine and warm weather. Over the Fourth of July weekend I visited a friend who lives out of town, spent a weekend camping in the Southern Tier with college friends, traveled to Lake Placid for an ice dance competition and attended a summer concert at CMAC. Later this month, I’ll head to Williamsport, Pa., for the Little League World Series (a yearly tradition with my brother) and will close out the summer with a second trip to Lake Placid for another ice skating competition.
While I have enjoyed all these fun opportunities, I also have just enjoyed the times this summer when I have just spent time outdoors — whether it was working in my garden, taking a walk along the Genesee River or sitting outside eating ice cream. Summer can always be so busy with vacations, sports, parties and gatherings that sometimes we just need to stop what we are doing and appreciate the beauty of God’s creation. The flowers, the sunsets, even a rain shower are all signs of God’s love for us.
So if you have been stuck indoors, or just haven’t gone outside as much as you’d like to this summer, I encourage you in the days remaining to spend some time with God’s creation. Living in Rochester, we only get a few months of warmth and sunshine, so we have to take full of advantage before God brings us the cold and snow!
