Attacks as prophetic acts?

To the editor:

I suggest that the Muslim world, in their attacks on us, are playing the role of prophet, as in the Old Testament. Our first response, of retaliating in Iraq and Afghanistan, is not what we should be doing. We should be turning to God, whom we once feared and obeyed, and repenting. Repenting of our false gods: secular humanism, with its tenets of radical feminism, individualism, and alternative lifestyles; freedom of speech, or rather pornography; abortion, ratified by our radical courts. Repenting of our consumerism, imperialism, militarism used to impose our culture of death on the rest of the world, and wondering why they don’t like us. May our Muslim brothers restore the fear of God in us.
