Auburn book sale to benefit local school

The 15th annual Book Bonanza to benefit St. Joseph’s School in Auburn will be held July 8-9 at Fingerlakes Mall, which is located on Routes 5 and 20 just west of Auburn. The Book Bonanza will be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. July 8 and from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. July 9.

The sale boasted more than 5,000 customers and more than 100,000 used books, videos, CDs and DVDs last year, making it one of the largest used-book sales in New York.

“It was a great success, and St. Joseph’s School raised over $15,000 from the sale,” said Diane La Rue, coordinator of the event. “Parents, students and alumni from the school work the sale, and it’s a good team-building exercise as well as a good service to the community, providing an opportunity for people to purchase good books at a greatly reduced cost.”

Paperback and children’s books will be sold for 50 cents each; hardcover books will be sold for $1 each; and “better books” of a higher value and quality will be sold for between $2 and $10 apiece. On July 9, bags of books will be sold for $2 per bag, or $5 per bag for better books. Only cash payments will be accepted at the sale.

Donations of used books, books on tape, videotapes and CDs will be accepted until July 4 at the Book Bonanza book drop, which is located across from the Sears store at Fingerlakes Mall. Textbooks, Reader’s Digest condensed books, encyclopedias, books without covers and wet books will not be accepted.
