Auburn church to host Year for Priests drama

Leonardo Defilippis will present “VIANNEY,” a live, one-man theatrical drama, at 7 p.m. March 19 at St. Mary Church, located at 15 Clark St. in Auburn. The production introduces viewers to St. John Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests worldwide.

St. Mary is hosting the production in honor of the Year for Priests, noted Father Frank Lioi, pastor. Last year Pope Benedict XVI declared the Year for Priests would extend from June 2009 through June 2010. This year is intended to deepen priests’ commitment to “interior renewal for the sake of a stronger and more incisive witness to the Gospel in today’s world,” the pope said.

The Year for Priests coincides with the 150th anniversary of St. John Vianney’s death, so Defilippis is using this opportunity to tour the world with his one-man show and help the public understand what it means to be a priest.
