To the editor:
I agree with Father Gerald O’Collins’ article "The Old Testament offers many insights" in the "FaithAlive!" package of the Courier’s April issue. In March I finished reading the Bible, and on Easter started reading it again, as I really enjoy reading about the thousands of years of history leading up to the coming of Christ.
In my third, as yet unpublished book, I used the Old Testament as a reference more than 100 times, more than in my first and second books combined. The books I used the most were Psalms, Proverbs, Wisdom, Sirach, and Isaiah. The Gospels and other books of the New Testament are important. But you can learn a lot from reading the Old Testament, the Scriptures that Jesus referred to many times.
