Author to speak at faith celebration

ROCHESTER — Megan McKenna, author of Praying the Rosary and The New Stations of the Cross, will be the featured speaker at the Irondequoit Catholic Communities’ Summer Celebration of Faith Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. at St. Ann’s Community, 1500 Portland Ave.

McKenna will in two separate sessions speak about “Tales of Wonder and Awe.” The sessions will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m.

In addition to being an author, McKenna, who resides in Albuquerque, N.M., is an internationally known theologian, storyteller and lecturer. She has taught at several colleges and universities, and has hosted retreats, workshops and parish missions. McKenna has graduate degrees in Scripture, adult education and literacy, and is a native of New York City.

McKenna has worked with base Christian communities as well as justice-and-peace groups, and has traveled throughout Asia, the Pacific islands, North America and South America. She has served on the U.S. National Board of Pax Christi, the Catholic peace group, and in 2002 was appointed an Ambassador of Peace for Pax Christi. She maintains a Web site at meganmckenna.org that features many of her writings .

During her presentation, McKenna will share stories of faith, individual courage and collective action. Her visit is sponsored by the Irondequoit Catholic Communities: St. Ann and the churches of St. Cecilia, Christ the King, St. Margaret Mary, St. Salome and St. Thomas the Apostle.
