Avoid debate on science

To the editor:

(In his column in the January monthly edition) on “Protecting all of God’s creation” where he addresses the issue of global climate change, Bishop Clark says we must create more awareness of this “crucial issue”. He goes on to say that the Diocese is coordinating a petition drive of how to spend revenues collected from power plants not in compliance with codes.

It’s too bad Bishop Clark doesn’t take the same pro-active approach circulating a petition for a public policy against abortion. The Wall Street Journal had an article, in December about prominent scientists whom would be glad to debate the fallacies of global warming with Al Gore. Mr. Gore refuses to acknowledge their request. The Bishop cites an “inter-governmental panel that found global warming to be unequivocal.” It would be interesting to know this same panel’s view on other issues such as birth control, abortion, zero population control, especially since the panel reported “human factors” as the likely cause of global changes.

It is of my opinion that the Bishop should not promote his flock to participate in a secular scientific debate by signing a petition regarding an issue of which “the jury is still out.”
