Avon students connect with Kenyan youths

First-grade technology students at St. Agnes School, Avon, have been corresponding in a variety of ways with students from the Kibera neighborhood, a slum section of Nairobi, Kenya.

Young people on each side of the globe have shared information about their schools and lives in general, exchanging e-mails, PowerPoint presentations and video songs. In addition, the students communicated via Skype on Nov. 20. As a response to learning about the Kenyan youths’ difficult living conditions, St. Agnes has sent a care package of school sweatshirts, cards and treats, and is planning a fundraiser to help its Kenyan friends build a playground since many of the children noted in their e-mails that they do not have one.
