With 43 guests on hand, a successful baby shower and luncheon took place Oct. 30. The event, which served to assist pregnant women in need, was held in the parish center of St. Anthony’s Church in Elmira.
The shower was sponsored by the Sacred Heart Ladies Society of St. Anthony/St. Patrick cluster. Guests brought new, unwrapped gifts, which served as their admission. According to Patricia Beemer, organizer, “We also introduced the ‘Spiritual Adoption’ which was well received. Our guests ‘adopted’ 48 babies, and will be praying to save them from abortion.”
Beemer explained that each person who pledged will pray for an “adopted” baby for nine months.
Guest speakers were Robin Savard, director of the Southern Tier Pregnancy Resource Center; and Terry Burke, area coordinator of the Gabriel Project, a national grassroots organization that supports women in crisis pregnancies. Also included in the day’s activities were music by the female sister duo Faith and Grace, as well as distribution of pro-life literature.
