To the editor:
When I was a seminarian at St. Bernard’s Seminary in 1964 and 1965, it was well understood by every student that homosexuality was not a characteristic the Church desired in future priests. Visits to another candidate’s room were expressly forbidden for just that very purpose. The world has certainly turned upside down. Now it seems we determine our judgments of the appropriateness of homosexual priests on the scale of how much pain they have suffered! The Church would be better advised to balance the pain of all of its people, not just a few.
