To the editor:
In his Nov. 12 column, “Rumors can be misleading,” Bishop Clark revealed that several priests informed him of their homosexuality. Now the question is how can “outing” help these priests if they intend to remain chaste?
The Vatican, as we know, wants to bar men with same sex attraction from the seminaries. Inasmuch as some 80 percent of sexual misconduct has involved homosexual priests, this is long overdue.
Men who are not same-sex attracted need to know that the seminaries they plan to attend are free from gay men. A seminary is no place for a homosexual to address his same-sex attraction. As laity we are told to avoid places that would tempt us to sin.
Unless we follow the advice from the Vatican in this matter, Good Bye, Good Men will be the outcome.
