Basilian Father George F. Freemesser, 70, died suddenly on March 23, 2004, while visiting his twin brother, Father Paul Freemesser, in Rochester.
Father Freemesser attended Blessed Sacrament School, Aquinas Institute and St. John Fisher College, graduating from the latter in 1956. He attended the University of Ottawa Medical School where he earned his medical degree in 1960. He then entered the Congregation of St. Basil and was ordained at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Rochester by Bishop James E. Kearney on Dec. 11, 1965.
Following ordination, Father Freemesser studied at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and Baylor University. As a psychiatrist, he then was engaged in private practice and professional service to the members of his congregation.
In addition to his brother, he is survived by his sister, Maryellen (Paul) Manning; his brother, Robert (Kathleen) Freemesser; his nieces; and the Basilian Fathers. His funeral liturgy was concelebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church on March 27, 2004, by Bishop Matthew H. Clark; Very Rev. Kenneth J. Decker, CSB; and Father Paul Freemesser. Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
