Benedictine monk to appear in Monroe County parishes

Father Matthew Habiger, a nationally known Benedictine monk from Nebraska, has scheduled three appearances in Monroe County from Oct. 25-Nov. 2.

Father Habiger will lead a parish mission Oct. 26-29 at Church of the Holy Spirit,1355 Hatch Road, Penfield. The program will run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. each night. Father Habiger will guide participants through an overview of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Catechisms will be sold at all four gatherings for those who don’t have one.

On Friday, Oct. 31, Father Habiger will be on hand for coffee and conversation following the 8:30 a.m. Mass at St. Pius Tenth Church, 3000 Chili Ave., Chili.

Finally, Father Habiger will appear at St. Leo Church, 167 Lake Ave., Hilton, for a natural family planning outreach weekend Nov. 1-2. He will give the homily at all weekend Masses (Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m, 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.) Following each liturgy he will offer a 20-minute presentation on natural family planning. Free material will be provided along with brochures informing participants of where they can go to take an NFP course.

Father Habiger was ordained in 1968. He has spoken on life issues in 55 countries to a wide variety of audiences.
