Riders, workers, sponsors and donors are needed for the “Wheels for Life” Bike-A-Thon on Saturday, May 13, in Cohocton.
The bicycle fundraiser will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will mark the 18th consecutive year it has taken place in the northern Steuben County town. The event has raised more than $62,000 since its inception in 1989, with an all-time high of more than $8,800 collected last year.
Proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In Memphis, Tenn. The hospital, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, aids children suffering from leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, sickle-cell anemia and other serious childhood diseases. Research done through St. Jude Hospital has helped increase the overall survival rate of children with cancer from 30 to 70 percent.
Those who are interested in participating in the Bike-A-Thon should call Margie Adams, coordinator, at 585/384-5564.
