To the editor:
We have asked forgiveness for our feelings and expressions when we heard that none of the 13 Catholic schools to be closed would be allowed to stay open after their hearings. Our immediate concern is for Holy Trinity School in Webster. Three grandchildren now attend Holy Trinity School. Our 13 children graduated from there and Bishop Kearney High School.
Many school parents and other parishioners put together a great proposal including cash and a large new endowment to compliment an existing large tuition endowment. There also were plans to grow our enrollment particularly from areas to the east including Wayne County. Our popular school easily drew support.
We are just finishing a new “state of the art” gymnasium attached to our school which will be great for school concerts and other parish functions. School concerts draw the largest single event attendance.
We are bewildered because the Diocesan representatives that heard our proposal and visited our facilities praised our plan. Then the reason given for not allowing us to stay open was for the sake of the 11 schools still open. That was a known factor before we presented the proposal.
