Bishop appoints deans, pastoral leaders

Bishop Salvatore R. Matano has appointed the following priests to three-year terms as deans/coordinators of their respective regions, effective Feb. 1, 2015:

Father John A. DeSocio, VF, dean of the South Region.

Father Robert Gaudio, VF, dean of the Monroe-West Region.

Father Stephen Karani, VF, dean of the West Region.

Father William F. Laird, VF, dean of the Central Region.

Father Frank E. Lioi, VF, dean of the East Region.

Father Anthony P. Mugavero, VF, dean of the Monroe-Central Region.

Father Robert P. Ring, VF, dean of the Monroe-East Region.

Bishop Matano also announced the following pastoral appointments, which become  effective June 30, 2015, unless otherwise noted:

Father Thomas Akowuah to parochial vicar, Holy Ghost, St. Jude and St. Helen, Gates, concurrent with Unity Hospital chaplain duties, from assisting priest, St. Charles Borromeo and Holy Name of Jesus, Greece, effective Jan. 5, 2015.

Father Michael Bausch to continue as pastor, Church of the Transfiguration, Pittsford.

Father George Heyman to president, St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry, concurrent with assisting priest, Church of the Resurrection, Fairport, effective Jan. 1, 2015.

Father Frank Lioi to continue as pastor, St. Mary and Ss. Mary and Martha, Auburn.

Father Bernard Maloney, OFM Cap, to parochial administrator, St. Francis, Interlaken, and Holy Cross, Ovid, concurrent with pastor, St. James the Apostle, Trumansburg, effective Dec. 10, 2014.

Father Gerard McKeon, SJ, to parochial vicar/campus minister, Ithaca Catholic Community and Cornell University, effective Jan. 26, 2015. 

Father James Schwartz to continue as pastor, Holy Spirit and St. Joseph, Penfield.

Father Felicjan Sierotowicz to parochial vicar, Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community, Finger Lakes, from OLOL’s assisting priest and duties at state correctional facilities in the diocese, effective Dec. 14, 2014.

Father Thomas Wheeland to continue as pastor, Holy Cross, Rochester.

The following priests were appointed to senior priest status due to retirement:

Father Peter Bayer from director of pastoral care, St. Ann’s Community, Rochester.

Father James Hewes from parochial vicar, Holy Ghost, St. Jude and St. Helen, Gates, effective Jan. 25, 2015.

Father Louis Vasile from pastor, St. Alphonsus, Auburn.
