Bishop John S. Bonnici will celebrate Mass Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, to mark the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The Mass will be celebrated at 12:10 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park in Rochester. All are welcome to attend.
Bishop Bonnici was director of the Archdiocese of New York’s Family Life/Respect Life office when the attacks occurred on Sept. 11, 2001. He reported to work that morning at the former archdiocesan headquarters on First Avenue in Manhattan, just seven miles north of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan.
In the days that followed, then-Father Bonnici ministered to emergency personnel and blessed the bodies of deceased victims at Ground Zero, as he recalled last spring in an interview with Catholic Courier staff writer Mike Latona.
