Bishop Clark undergoing hip-replacement surgery

Diocesan officials announced early Thursday morning, May 8, that Bishop Matthew H. Clark, 70, was scheduled to have his left hip replaced later that morning at Rochester’s Highland Hospital.
After a brief hospital stay and initial rehabilitative therapy at the hospital, which is common in such procedures, Bishop Clark is expected to recuperate at home. Officials said the bishop hopes to return to work as soon as his doctor allows.

Cards or notes for Bishop Clark may be sent to: Pastoral Center, 1150 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624.

Bishop Clark, who was ordained a bishop by Pope John Paul II in May 1979 and installed as eighth bishop of Rochester the following month, will celebrate the 30th anniversary of his episcopate in 2009.
