IRONDEQUOIT — Bishop Kearney High School’s board of trustees has appointed Thomas O’Neil as interim president and chief executive officer of the institution.
In March O’Neil will replace outgoing president Donna Dedee, who will become chief executive officer of Rochester’s School of the Holy Childhood.
A longtime local bank executive, O’Neil is no stranger to Bishop Kearney. After his children attended the school he was cochairman of the Kearney Sports Boosters Club, and to this day continues to do public-address announcement for varsity football and basketball home games.
A member of Bishop Kearney’s Hall of Fame, O’Neil also was a longtime member of the school’s board of trustees, spending two years as chairman of the governing body, until his term ended in 2009. He also has long-standing connections to Catholic education in the community, having served as the chairman of the Diocese of Rochester’s Northeast Quadrant Governance Board.
"Appointing Tom to this position is a real win for Bishop Kearney," said John Montague, chairman of the school’s board of trustees. "When Donna announced her departure, she and the trustees agreed that it was vitally important to put someone in place who would ensure continuity for Kearney; there is no doubt we have that with Tom’s leadership."
