In a new video released by his office, Bishop John S. Bonnici is inviting the faithful of the Diocese of Rochester to join him on the upcoming Blessed Fulton J. Sheen Relic Tour.
A first-class relic of Archbishop Sheen, who led the Rochester Diocese as its sixth bishop (1966-69), is being gifted to the diocese by Archbishop Sheen’s native Diocese of Peoria. Five days after Archbishop Sheen is beatified in St. Louis, Mo., Peoria Bishop Louis Tylka will present the relic to Bishop Bonnici during a Mass at Rochester’s Sacred Heart Cathedral.
All are welcome to attend the Sept. 29 Mass.
Subsequently, a series of related Masses will take place at several parishes around the diocese. During these liturgies, the faithful will have opportunities to view and venerate the relic before it is placed on permanent display at the cathedral for further viewing and veneration.
All the liturgies will begin at 7 p.m. with Bishop Bonnici presiding. Dates and locations are:
