Bishop requests second collection for Haiti weekend of Jan. 16/17

Responding to the devastation in Haiti and in cooperation with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Bishop Matthew H. Clark has requested that all faith communities conduct a second collection this weekend to aid the people of Haiti.

The money collected will be sent to Catholic Relief Services, which is mounting an effort to help and already has committed $5 million in aid.

The funds from the second collection will be used to provide immediate emergency needs for such necessities as water, food, shelter and medical care, as well as to the long-term need to rebuild after widespread destruction, and to the pastoral and reconstruction needs of the church in Haiti.

Donations from the second collection should be sent to the Diocese of Rochester, 1150 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624 in care of the Finance Department with the notation “Haiti Fund.”
