Buses to provide rides to April 3 Chrism Mass

Bus transportation is available from the Finger Lakes and the Southern Tier regions to attend the annual Chrism Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, Rochester. The Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m.

A bus will depart from St. Mary Church, 15 Clark St., Auburn, at 5:30 p.m. and will return to the church by 11:30 p.m. Transportation on the bus will cost $11 per person. The bus will not stop for dinner, so riders are encouraged to bring a sandwich or a snack.

To reserve a spot on the bus, contact Kathy Lipfert at St. Mary Parish at 315/252-9545.

A bus leaving out of St. Mary’s Southside Church, Elmira, will cost $40 per person and include fare and an Irish buffet in Rochester. Those interested should call Sister M. Raymond Joseph at 607/734-6480 by March 27.

A second bus will leave from St. Patrick’s Church in Owego at 3 p.m. on April 3 and 3:20 p.m. from St. James in Waverly. The bus will return home immediately following Mass, arriving back at approximately midnight. Reservations are required and may be made by calling Lisa at 607/687-1068. A free-will offering will be collected to offset bus expenses.

All are welcome to attend the Chrism Mass. It is held each year during Holy Week and is highlighted by the blessing of sacramental oils by Bishop Matthew H. Clark. The oils are then distributed to parish representatives, who bring them back to their faith communities around the 12-county diocese to be used throughout the year.
