Campus community gets $16,000 grant

The Catholic Newman Community at the University of Rochester recently received a $16,000 grant from Our Sunday Visitor Institute, a nonprofit organization from Huntington, Ind.

Of the grant money, $13,000 will be put toward implementing leadership training for Stephen Ministries, a peer-to-peer caregiving program aiding those in crisis. Remaining grant funds will go to the Newman Community’s St. Sebastian Society, a coalition of student-athletes dedicated to leadership, spirituality and community service.

Rochester Bishop Salvatore R. Matano, in an endorsement letter to Our Sunday Visitor Institute, stated, "I fully support and deeply appreciate the very serious need to provide Catholic ministry on college campuses today. Having visited the University of Rochester and the Catholic Newman Community, I have seen first-hand the passion of the ministry and the impact that Father (Brian) Cool and his ministry have on campus."

Father Cool serves as director of the university’s Catholic Newman Community.
