Catholic agency’s chief to retire

Catholic Charities Community Services Executive Director Paul T. Pickering will retire at the end of 2012.

CCCS is a human-services agency serving adults and children with developmental disabilities, adults with traumatic brain injury, adults seeking nursing-home care alternatives, and adults and children living with HIV/AIDS.

During Pickering’s tenure, the agency grew from one group home serving 10 consumers in 1980 to a multifaceted agency with 12 certified residential sites and service coordination for more than 800 consumers.

Pickering has served on the state Association of Community and Residential Agencies and the state Council of Catholic Charities Directors.

“Having worked in multiple human services agencies over the course of my career, I’ve found working with the clients and staff of CCCS to be the most rewarding experience I’ve had,” Pickering said in a statement from CCCS. “I am so happy that I have been able to further the mission of our agency and help our clients live with dignity as people of God.”

A search committee is exploring options for Pickering’s successor.
