The Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley recently awarded a $10,000 grant to a Catholic Charities of Wayne County program intended to help girls from economically disadvantaged families attend college.
The College Bound program provides case-management services to 16 female students in the Lyons and North Rose-Wolcott school districts. Through this program, the girls receive assistance with college applications, budgeting, financial-aid applications and college visits.
In 2006 the Women’s Foundation awarded a total of $208,673 in grants to 11 projects in Wayne, Ontario, Monroe, Orleans and Genesee counties. The foundation is devoted to funding economic self-sufficiency programs for women and girls in order to break the cycle of poverty.
