Ellen T. Wayne became the new executive director of Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes on Sept. 24.
Wayne replaced Anthony Barbaro, who had been the agency’s executive director since October 2005. Barbaro is currently serving as associate diocesan director of Catholic Charities.
Wayne has held department- and senior-level management positions in not-for-profit and human-service organizations for more than 15 years. She served as director of community development for Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency for seven years before becoming director of temporary assistance for the Seneca County Division of Human Services, where she worked for five years.
Wayne also has held development positions with Action for a Better Community and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She has a master’s degree in public administration from SUNY Brockport and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Scranton, a Jesuit university in Pennsylvania.
Wayne said in a printed statement she is glad to be joining the agency during a time of such great opportunity and is looking forward to working with the local communities.
"The organization is in a unique position to respond with innovation and collaboration in order to respond to the challenges faced by the poor and those in need," Wayne said in the statement.
