Despite the cancellation of many in-person Christmas traditions due to the ongoing pandemic, the Catholic Courier‘s annual digital Advent calendar will continue in 2020, with the hope of reaching those looking for new traditions to share while staying at home.
The saints-themed calendar, available at CatholicCourier.com/adventcalendar2020, starts Nov. 28 and will feature 28 windows hiding multimedia “treats.” Visitors will be able to open a new window each day through Dec. 25.
The calendar will feature some surprises related to saints whose feasts are celebrated during Advent. The calendar also will include cooking and craft videos, Sunday Gospel readings and reflections on various topics.
In conjunction with the Advent calendar, the Catholic Courier again is sponsoring a coloring contest for children ages 3-12. The coloring contest also is saint-themed with drawings from Frank Wolfs, a parishioner from East Rochester’s St. Jerome parish.
Interested children and their parents or teachers can check out the facing page, which features one of the pictures to be colored. Coloring pages for three other saints can be downloaded and printed from the Courier’s website, where complete rules also are listed. Contest entries must be emailed to Newsroom@CatholicCourier.com.
The contest deadline is Nov. 23. Beginning Nov. 30, visitors to the Courier’s website may vote for the best-colored picture in each age category (3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12). Voting rules also are listed on the coloring-contest page of the website, and winners will be announced in a video to be featured in the Advent calendar on Dec. 24.
