Catholics must aid conversion

To the editor:

Christ’s laws are the same yesterday, today and forever. So, while I agree with Catholic University President John Garvey (see "Same-sex marriage is legacy of the pill," Catholic Courier,August 2015) that the pill has destroyed marriage — as Pope Paul VI predicted in Humane Vitae — I disagree with his implication that morality and chastity for Catholics must be spoken of in the past tense.

The Catholic Church has asked heterosexuals as well as our gay brothers and sisters to live moral and chaste lives. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. The onus is not on the Catholic Church to restate what is has always stated, but for the Supreme Court and secular society to recognize the value of chastity.

What is necessary to change society is for the average Joe and Joan in the pews to claim their catholicity, and prayerfully reach out to friends and family, striving to convince them by example and heart to heart discussion, not condemnation, that Christ’s laws are sane, health-giving, and joy filled.
