My colleague Mike Latona recently wrote a blog about friendship. His post had me reflecting on my own friendships.
During my recent birthday weekend, I had the opportunity to get together with many of my friends, who have all come into my life in different ways.
First, I spent some time with a friend and her family from church. Our families have gotten close over the years as we get together to celebrate holidays and special occasions. I also enjoy watching their three boys.
The next day, I spent the afternoon reliving memories as well as creating some new ones with my good friends from News10NBC. We had fun sharing old stories and I literally danced with joy over hearing my friend’s exciting news regarding his newest adventure.
Following that, I spent some time with a best friend, whom I have been friends with since we were 3 years old. We have celebrated almost 30 years of birthdays together, but this year was extra special, as I got to celebrate my birthday with her first child, who was born in December.
And finally, I got together with my best friend from college and her family. We met during our freshmen year and now, almost 15 years later, we are really close. So much so that I’m her daughter’s godmother.
So I’m blessed to have such good friends in my life. I thank God for their friendship, the times we have shared and the memories yet to come.
"And friends are friends forever
If the Lord’s the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
‘Cause the welcome will not end
Though it’s hard to let you go
In the Father’s hands we know
That a lifetime’s not too long
To live as friends"
