The Catholic Courier celebrates the achievements and milestones of diocesan individuals and organizations in the Southern Tier:

April

Rachel Vickio, a parishioner of Schuyler Catholic Community, celebrated her 104th birthday on March 26.

The youth group of St. John the Evangelist, Newark Valley, raised nearly $250 for Catholic Relief Services as the result of a 24-hour food fast it conducted Feb. 24-25. A total of 16 youths and two adults participated from the Tioga County Church.
 

December 

Rachel Vickio, a parishioner of Schuyler Catholic Community, celebrated her 104th birthday on March 26.

Holy Family Catholic Community dedicated a new abortion memorial Oct. 23 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Dansville. The memorial serves to commemorate the millions of babies killed by abortion.

November 

Two members of St. Luke Parish in Livingston County recently celebrated their 100th birthdays: JJ Palermo on Oct. 23, and Jeri Quirk on Oct. 24.

June

Mary Meisenzahl, a graduate of St. Agnes School in Avon, was selected to attend the first-ever White House College Reporter Day April 28. A freshman at Wellesley College near Boston, Mass., she was among only 50 student reporters from colleges around the United States to participate in a press briefing with Press Secretary Josh Earnest. The day also included a surprise visit to Meisenzahl and other participants by President Barack Obama. 

Donna Falkner, business manager at St. Luke Parish, has been named a Livingston County Senior Citizen of the Year for 2016.
