To the editor:
Recent remarks by Pope Francis concerning climate change indicated that human beings were responsible for alleged global warming.
Yet in 2008 Dr. Arthur Robinson of the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine announced that more than 31,000 scientists signed a petition rejecting the theory of human caused global warming. Their view was that any change in global temperature was mainly caused by the sun.
Due to the fact that carbon dioxide is a small part of greenhouse gases it could only be considered a minor cause of temperature change.
Therefore a draconian cut in carbon dioxide would be expensive and unnecessary.
Experience tells us that unscientific decisions have ended in disaster. Witness the unscientific decision to ban the pesticide DDT. Prior to its ban, DDT saved millions of lives from malaria. After the ban, millions died from malaria and other diseases.
Hopefully today wiser heads will prevail regarding climate change. Government grants notwithstanding, scientific evidence will decide the path of climate change.
