For 25 years, Bob Schrader, music director at Chili’s St. Pius Tenth Parish for the last 20 years, has dreamed of presenting Marty Haugen’s Christmas collection “Welcome the Child.”
On Dec. 17, he will do just that, leading a 40-member choir and instrumental ensemble in a 3 p.m. concert. The event is free and open to the public. The concert will take place in the church, 3010 Chili Ave., followed by a reception in the parish center.
Schrader describes Haugen’s 1992 album as “a very ecclectic collection of Christmas music” that includes carols from Scotland, France, Poland, Mexico, West Africa and the U.S.
The choir comprises adults and children from St. Pius Tenth, Parish of the Holy Family in Gates and St. Christopher in North Chili. Instrumentalists will include Deacon Johan Engström, Deacon Vince Franco and James Tauzel, former superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Rochester.Tags: Monroe County West
