Despite a few large donations received in the final weeks of the campaign, the 2022-23 Catholic Courier/Catholic Charities Christmas Appeal fell just short of its $46,000 goal.
The 53rd-annual appeal raised $44,947.12, according to the Courier’s office manager, Kim Woodams, who oversees the appeal. The 2022-23 appeal, which ended Feb. 28, also came in slightly under last year’s $45,306 tally.
Although the average donation rose by $1.09, in spite of current economic challenges, the number of donations to the 2022-23 appeal also dropped slightly to 429.
The appeal attracted 39 new donors who collectively contributed $6,365. Catholic Courier staff hope more new donors will consider contributing to next year’s appeal.
The Christmas Appeal raises money for the emergency fund of the various Catholic Charities offices and affiliated agencies throughout the Diocese of Rochester.
The 54th-annual Christmas Appeal will begin in November.
