Chronic dialysis unit opens at St. Joseph’s Hospital

St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira has opened a 3,300-square-foot chronic renal-dialysis unit.

The facility was officially launched Sept. 24, on the 100th anniversary of the hospital’s founding. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by a reception.

The unit offers 16 stations that can treat as many as 96 patients per week. Among the clinic’s provided services will be chronic hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, pre-end-state renal dialysis and transplant referrals, as well as dietary and social-work support for patients.

This marks a significant upgrade to the Kidney Center, a facility that opened at St. Joseph’s in 2004. Patients interested in receiving treatment at the new chronic renal-dialysis unit should call 607-271-3439.
