City East parishes offer Lenten series

The parishes of Annunciation, St. Andrew, St. George and St. Stanislaus have planned a series of events for Wednesdays during Lent on the general theme of “Praying with Pope John Paul II.”

Father Tony Mugavero, parochial vicar at Our Lady of the Americas Parish in Rochester, will speak on “Forgiveness and the Example of John Paul II” at noon Feb. 13 at St. Stanislaus Parish, 1124 Hudson Ave., Rochester. His presentation will be followed by a luncheon.

Sister of St. Joseph Beth LeValley will speak on “John Paul’s ‘The Mission of the Church’” at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the St. Andrew School cafeteria, 901 Portland Ave., Rochester. The presentation will be combined with a soup supper. Sister LeValley is an organizer of the Ecumenical Interfaith Community for Social Change and founder of the Progressive Neighborhood Federal Credit Union.

Vilma Sliuzaite, a doctoral candidate at the John Paul II Pontifical Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at Catholic University, will speak on “Universal Call to Holiness: Our Response to God’s Loving Gift” at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at St. George Parish, 545 Hudson Ave., Rochester. The presentation will be followed by a soup supper.
