There will be a closing Mass for the Year of Faith at 5 p.m. Nov. 24 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, Rochester.
Pope Benedict XVI called for the Year of Faith in his 2011 apostolic letter Porta Fidei (“The Door of Faith”) and noted that modern-day evangelists were needed to re-engage people in the faith. The Year of Faith opened Oct. 11, 2012, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and it closes on Nov. 24 on the final day of the liturgical year.
During the Year of Faith, the Diocese of Rochester started a teen penance video contest to explain the sacrament of penance, launched a website focused on penance, http://forgiven.dor.org, and hosted a diocesanwide day of penance at all diocesan parishes.
