Diocese of Rochester officials announced June 10 that the Catholic Ministries Appeal has surpassed the $6 million mark for the first time in its 35-year history.
The 2015-16 campaign, which ended May 31, has brought in commitments totaling $6.035 million from nearly 28,000 households, according to David Kelly, campaign manager. This marks a notable rise from last year’s record total of $5.67 million.
Also for the first time, the average gift has exceeded $200.
"We are blessed in the Diocese of Rochester with many families that care deeply for the church’s mission and charitable works," Bishop Salvatore R. Matano said in a statement. "I am most grateful that they have chosen to help sustain our ministries and programs."
CMA proceeds support more than half of the diocesan budget by funding numerous initiatives throughout the 12-county diocese. For more information about the campaign, visit www.dor.org.
