More than 500 people recently braved brutally cold temperatures to participate in St. Michael School’s seventh-annual Turkey Trot 5K race.
Organizers were worried that the cold weather would keep people away from the race, which is one of the Penn Yan school’s four biggest annual fundraisers, noted Principal Tom Flood. Although the temperature in Penn Yan was in the single digits shortly before the race, which started at 8:30 on Thanksgiving morning, hundreds of people participated nonetheless. The race raised well over $20,000 for the school and was a success, Flood said.
The school’s other three major annual fundraisers are a cash bash held in the spring, the Bike the Bluff bike race in June and an August golf tournament.
