Committee plans celebration, seeks student memories

St. Francis and St. Clare Parish in Waterloo and Seneca Falls is planning a June 28 celebration to mark the 50th jubilee of Sister Anne Marvin, and is asking Sister Marvin’s former students for help putting together a special gift for the Sister of St. Joseph.

As a child Sister Marvin attended St. Patrick School in her native Seneca Falls. After becoming a Sister of St. Joseph in 1965, she taught for more than 20 years at St. Mary School in Waterloo. Since 1998 she has been involved with the Sisters of St. Joseph’s mission work in Brazil. She is back home in the Finger Lakes region now, but will be returning to Brazil in a few months.

St. Francis and St. Clare Parish will celebrate Sister Marvin’s anniversary June 28 with a 2 p.m. Mass at St. Mary Church, located at 35 Center St. in Waterloo. The Mass will be followed by a reception in the former St. Mary School building, which now is the parish’s ministry center.

Members of the committee organizing the celebration would like to put together a memory book for Sister Marvin containing personal messages and photographs from her former students. They are asking anyone who had Sister Marvin as a teacher to mail these personal messages, as well as their names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and information about their spouses and children, to Cathie Bertino at 6 Jellicle Lane, Waterloo, NY 13165, or e-mail the information to her at For more information, contact Bertino at 315-651-4169.
